Welcome to Cascadianferries.org

The Salish Sea is crisscrossed by a plethora of ferries, carrying people and goods across the water to communities that would otherwise be cut off from the rest of the region. Tens of thousands of people in Cascadia rely on these ferries to carry them across the Salish Sea to work, school, vacations, appointments, shopping, and countless other things. A ferry ride is a special thing- it’s always a good time being on the water, breathing the fresh ocean air as you sail through one of the most picturesque regions in the world. It’s no wonder that the ferries have captured the interest and imagination of so many people…

I am one of those people. My name is Luke Ward, and I am a life-long ferry enthusiast with a vast interest in the ships, the logistics behind their operation, and the communities they serve. My goal is to eventually ride every ferry and visit every ferry-dependent community in Washington State and British Columbia, and I’m launching cascadianferries.org as a place to share my knowledge and experiences, post updates on what is going on in the industry, and to try to advocate for the needs of ferry-dependent communities.

Let’s see where this goes…
